On March 23, 2025, airstrikes continued to target homes, tents, and civilian gatherings across the Gaza Strip, coinciding with an expansion of displacement. There were reports of deaths and injuries, including women and children, and that people remained trapped under rubble because rescue teams were unable to reach some locations.
Humanitarian repercussions
The loss of family members and the destruction of homes have far-reaching consequences, including disruption to education and employment, and reliance on shelters or temporary tents. The difficulties in recovering victims further compound the suffering of their families and hinder efforts to identify the missing.
Rights and legal protection
Parties to the conflict must distinguish between military objectives and civilian objects, refrain from indiscriminate and disproportionate attacks, and take feasible precautions in the choice of means and targets.
Protection and monitoring methods
These events call for strengthening rescue and documentation capabilities, and providing practical protection for homes, shelters, and displaced families.
