At the end of March 2025, details emerged of the killing of a group of paramedics and civil defense personnel while carrying out humanitarian duties in the Rafah area. The article published on March 31st addressed the deaths of 14 crew members, along with calls for accountability and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Humanitarian repercussions
The loss of paramedics and rescuers has an impact that extends beyond the victims and their families, as it reduces the number of workers able to reach the wounded and increases the risk of the injured being left without a quick evacuation.
Rights and legal protection
Medical personnel and medical transport enjoy special protection under international humanitarian law, and serious allegations warrant an independent, evidence-based investigation, without prejudging criminal responsibility.
Protection and monitoring methods
Protecting humanitarian work, securing response mechanisms, and disclosing the results of investigations remain essential requirements to ensure that similar incidents do not recur.
