Between March 18 and 20, 2025, airstrikes targeted residential areas in the Gaza Strip, while evacuation orders were issued for areas in eastern Khan Younis and the northern part of the Strip. On March 18, casualties and wounded individuals were reported arriving at medical facilities in Gaza City, as rescue efforts for those trapped under the rubble became increasingly difficult.
Humanitarian repercussions
Families leaving under bombardment lose the opportunity to prepare in an organized manner for displacement; they may be forced to leave their property or separate from family members, with no adequate guarantees of shelter and services in transit areas.
Rights and legal protection
The rules of international humanitarian law emphasize the need to take precautions to protect civilians and impose strict restrictions on the forced transfer of populations, with each case to be assessed according to the facts and legal necessity.
Protection and monitoring methods
Protecting civilian areas and enabling rescue teams to operate, along with ensuring safe shelter and basic services for displaced people, remain urgent priorities.
