During May 2025, human rights reports addressed the impact of the continued closure of crossings since the beginning of March on food supplies in the Gaza Strip. They noted the disruption of bakeries and shortages of essential goods such as flour, rice, and vegetables, as well as a decline in food distribution to families.
Humanitarian repercussions
Women and children are particularly affected when families are unable to obtain regular and nutritious meals, especially in displacement camps and with the high cost of available materials.
Rights and legal protection
International humanitarian law prohibits the starvation of civilians as a method of warfare, and recognizes the need to protect materials indispensable to the survival of the population and to facilitate relief in accordance with its provisions.
Protection and monitoring methods
Reopening supply routes and ensuring the fair distribution of food helps reduce risks to the most vulnerable groups.
